MORÉAS (Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos, known as Jean). Set of 3 - Lot 145
MORÉAS (Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos, known as Jean). Set of 3 signed autograph letters. Autograph letter signed to a "dear colleague". "This Wednesday" [October 18, 1905, according to the postmark on the envelope]. "The poor state of my health has not yet allowed me to write the tale or fantasy I intend for "L'Ermitage". I am sending you today an extract from a little book that will be published by Sansot in December [PAYSAGES ET SENTIMENTS, printed with the date 1906]. If it pleases you, please give it to me in the meantime..." - 2 autograph letters signed to actor Eugène Silvain. ON HIS TRAGEDY IPHIGENIE, created by actors Eugène Silvain and his wife Louise Hartman in Orange in August 1903, then at the Odéon in December 1903. So, "this Friday": "I'm still very Olympian, it's true, but, at the same time, singularly good-natured. Just think... I had every right to be surprised by the news in the papers! This Réal [the félibre François-Fortuné Fernand-Michel dit Antony-Réal, co-founder of the Chorégies d'Orange] had told me one evening, in front of you, something very clear about his resolution to take over my play. And this without any provocation on my part. You know very well that I don't care, and that I only wanted to do it because of you and your admirable talent... My best compliments to the beautiful Iphigénie... " "This Saturday" [probably December 1904 or January 1905]: "There is talk of devoting a matinee to my poetic work at the Odéon. It will be on January 22, a Saturday. Charles Morice will speak in front of the curtain. I ask you to read with Louise a scene from Iphigénie [a tragedy by Jean Moréas premiered in December 1903]...". - ATTACHED: SALMON (André). Autograph letter signed to a "dear colleague". 1929. Includes SOUVENIRS SUR JEAN MOREAS.
