Saheli har NECKLACE, on 750 thousandths yellow gold cord, adorned with engraved balls decorated with flowers and holding seven drooping pendants, each adorned with stones and imitation stones on foil (leucosaphir, turquoise, ruby, white coral and various), the center decorated with tree-of-life motifs, and or birds applied on a glass background on foil. Each pendant holds small gold balls, the backs engraved with foliage. Indian work, probably 19th century. (Worn, chipped and missing). Height of main pendant: 4.2 cm Gross weight: 185.5 g The tree of life is a figure found in both Muslim and Hindu culture. For Muslims, it symbolizes the tree growing in the middle of the Garden of Eden, whose fruit provided eternal life; in Hindu tradition, it is the tree that sustains the universe and preserves life.
