LUNEVILLE Rare set of three earthenware rimmed plates, one with polychrome decoration of a man operating a blowing machine and the inscription: josephe de marne faire adere sa partie simple foullante, the second with polychrome decoration of a man holding a glass and a bouteillet and a woman brandishing a bottle around a jet of water and the inscription: joseph démarne jeu deau je te casse la bouteille sur la tete gue divrogne, the third depicting the same couple side by side in front of two crossed pikes and a bird surmounting the inscription: josephe de marne qui fait la paix avec sa fame qui lui promet de ne plus boire. Late 18th century. D. 22 cm. A small crack on the third plate. A 19th-century plate depicting a man operating a pump and the inscription joseph demarne pompe aspirante.
