ROUEN Rectangular earthenware dish with polychrome decoration in the center of a boat on the waves with a Chinese couple having lunch under a canopy, the boat driven by two men, six birds perched on the canopy uprights, one bird in flight, the wing decorated with the Bernart d'Avernes coat of arms, shells, ironwork motifs and foliage on a trellis background. Manufactured by Caussy. 18th century, circa 1735. L. : 48 cm x 36.5 cm. The coat of arms is that of Eustache de Bernart, lord of Avernes and Courmesnil, elevated in 1734 to the rank of Grand Prior of Champagne of the Order of Malta.
