NEVERS Diamond-shaped earthenware tile from the pavement of the Château de Thouars, decorated with the coat of arms of Marie de La Tour, Duchess of Thouars, featuring a tower framed by four fleurs-de-lis in orange on a blue background. Manufacture of Antoine Conrade. 17th century, 1636. L. : 25 cm x 21 cm. This tile is part of a pavement commissioned in 1636 by the Duchess of Thouars from Antoine Conrade, a Nevers faience maker. The pavement at the château was dismantled during the French Revolution and is now dispersed. The Musée de Thouars holds some thirty tiles.
