SÈVRES A soft-paste porcelain bowl-shaped plate with polychrome decoration in the center of a bouquet of tied roses in a medallion on a celestial-blue ground framed by a garland of flowers, the rim decorated in gold with groups of flowers on a celestial-blue ground. Marked: Sevres, X, mark of the painter Hirel de Choisy. Early 19th century, year X, 1801-1802. D. 24 cm. This plate is part of a service delivered on February 17, 1803 to M. le cardinal Caprara, envoy of Pope Pius VII, on behalf of the government. Cardinal Caprara was appointed papal legate to the French government by Pope Pius VII in 1801. It was with him that the First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte concluded the terms of the Concordat that same year, re-establishing Catholic worship in France. Archbishop of Milan from 1802, he crowned Napoleon Bonaparte King of Italy on May 26, 1805.
