SÈVRES - Lot 255
SÈVRES Soft-paste porcelain compotier coquille with polychrome decoration in the center of a bouquet of roses and barbels in a medallion surrounded by a pearled carmine fillet, the rim decorated with semis of barbels between two carmine fillets. Marked: LL interlaced, letter-date PP for 1792, painter's mark Melle Tristant. 18th century, 1792. L.: 22 cm. This compotier is part of a service whose decoration is described as "barbeaux et filets", sold on August 29, 1792 to Boyd Kerr et Compagnie, a Paris-based banking company run by two Englishmen: Walter Boyd and Robert Kerr. The sales records of the Manufacture de Sèvres state that they were buying on behalf of John Carleton, probably an Englishman.
