Autograph letter signed to his friend, the writer Edmond Rocher. Manheulles [in the Meuse], November 4, 1914. "My dear old man, I HAVE JUST LIVED IN THE TRANCHEES 400 METERS FROM THE BOCHES 4 DAYS OF INTENSE AND SERIOUS LIFE. SHELLS AND BULLETS GREETED US WITH THEIR BURSTS, AND THEN THERE WAS SILENCE IN THIS WOËVRE, BATHED IN BRIGHT AUTUMN SUNSHINE. After that, we spent two days back in the small village of Manheulles... We start again this evening..." (one p. in-16 in pencil, split at one fold). - Autograph card signed to publisher Alfred Vallette. S.l., March 15, 1915. "SINCE LAST NIGHT, I HAVE RESUMED MY GOOD LIFE OF TRANCHEE. On March 4, I was made second lieutenant, but I was not informed of the happy event until the 10th. I've gone back to my old company, where I've met up again with the brave poilus I left a month ago. Things are going very well. Everyone is in excellent spirits and full of enthusiasm. BEFORE LONG, I HOPE, WE'LL GET INTO THE KRAUTS' CABBAGE AND IT WILL WORK...". (one p. in-12). LOUIS PERGAUD WOULD BE KILLED 20 DAYS LATER. - Autograph card signed [to writer Lucien Descaves]. Paris, "Monday evening" [June 16, 1913]. Concerning the funeral of his friend, the poet LEON DEUBEL, who was found to have committed suicide on June 10, 1913, and his plans to have the poet's works published. He also announces: "... I am to write a long article for La Mêlée on Philémon [the novel Philémon, vieux de la vieille by Lucien Descaves, published in 1913..."
