ORIGINAL EDITION ISSUED IN 125 NUMEROTES ON JAPAN, this one nominative for the secretary of the Société du livre contemporain. ONE OF 5 BOOKS PRINTED ENTIRELY ON THE F.-L. SCHMIED HAND PRESS. FIRST EDITION OF ILLUSTRATIONS BY F.-L. SCHMIED: 83 woodcuts in color, including a composition on the cover, 7 full-page woodcuts, 40 large figures in the text and 35 culs-de-lampe. A PRECIOUS COPY ENRICHED WITH 18 PIECES: - 10 COLOR TRIALS SIGNED BY F.-L. SCHMIED, printed on japon mince, mounted on strong paper sheets, for the woodcuts on pp. 12, 15, 29 (with a black line proof of the same woodcut on the same sheet), 49, 52, 61, 104 (2 trials), 124 and 134. Very beautiful, they offer a valuable insight into the artist's method, and some are masterpieces in their own right. - 2 copies of the menu illustrated by F.-L. SCHMIED: on a speckled background with bands continuing on the boards and spine, a composition of a water jet between silhouettes of buildings stands out.
