SADE (François-Xavier David de). Autograph letter signed "le vicomte de Sade" to a bookseller. S.l.n.d. 2/3 p. in-8 square. "Monsieur, knowing that you must leave and that you had asked me what you owed me, you have only to conter 10 [livres] 15 the volume, and you will see what it does. At the same time, I beg you to send me the four volumes of the Histoire de l'Amérique [most likely William Robertson's famous work]. As for the receipt, I will send it to you in Aix. I have the honor to be, Sir, your most humble and obedient servant..." A distant cousin of the famous Marquis de Sade, the Comte de Sade (1777-1846) emigrated to London and then Rome, contributing to the royalist journal L'Ambigu, before returning to France in 1812. He had a long political career in the liberal ranks, and was elected to the French Parliament from 1827 until his death.
