In-4, 2-(2 blanks) pp. The American poet Joel Barlow (1754-1812), who fought under Washington in the American Revolutionary War, came to England and France in 1788 as an agent for the Ohio Company. During the Revolution, he befriended the Girondins and espoused their ideas, publishing a number of political texts, including a Lettre à la Convention (1792) in which he urged them to abolish royalty. This attitude earned him French citizenship. He was appointed US ambassador to France in 1811. - NATIONAL CONVENTION.
