À Amsterdam, et à Paris, chez la veuve Duchesne, 1785. 3 volumes in-12, 564 + 531-(one blank) + (2 of which the second blank)-618 pp. in marbled tawny calf, spines ribbed with partitions and fleurons with red and black title and tomaison pieces, cold fillet framing the boards, filleted edges, red edges; spines rubbed with snags and minor restorations, 2 volumes with body split inside (period binding). Second edition, printed in the same year as the original, by the same publisher, but with modified place reference. The first sections of the main text of this second edition are taken from the original edition, but most of the others have been re-edited with different pagination. For the main part of the text, relating to events in America, the author adopts and develops the point of view of the royal power, i.e. that France was forced to enter the war as a result of English provocations, that the action of the French army and that of the Marquis de La Fayette in America were decisive, and finally that the United States now had to strengthen the centralism of their federation to guarantee themselves a future. A literary scholar, Abbé de Longchamps (1740-1812) was a corresponding member of the Académie de La Rochelle.
