SEPARATE FIRST EDITION of this history of the United States, extracted from the Histoire philosophique et politique des révolutions d'Angleterre depuis la descente de Jules César jusqu'à la paix de 1783 (Paris, Moutardier, an VII, 1798-1799). ENTHUSIASTIC DEFENDER OF THE PRINCIPLES OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, JEAN CHAS (1750-1830), a Jesuit from Nimes, sent a copy of this work to Thomas Jefferson in April 1801, who wrote him a letter of congratulations.
