JUMELLES de théâtre ou d'opéra in silver-plated metal, mother-of-pearl and enamel with polychrome decoration of galant scenes and engraved with the numeral: "BM". 19th century H. 6.5 cm; L. 10.5 cm The inlays on this pair of theater binoculars appear to be made from parts and fragments of Mother-of-Pearl (Pinctada margaritifera). This species of mother-of-pearl is not subject to regulation under the Washington Convention, European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996, or the French Environment Code.
