Gilded brass, mother-of-pearl and enameled copper theater or opera glasses with green guilloché backgrounds and floral and bouquet motifs in reserves. 19th century H. 5 cm; L. 10 cm (some wear) A leather box is included. The inlays on this pair of theater binoculars appear to be made from parts and fragments of Mother-of-Pearl (Pinctada margaritifera). This species of mother-of-pearl is not subject to regulation under the Washington Convention, European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996, or the French Environment Code.
