Gilded brass, mother-of-pearl and enameled copper theater binoculars with polychrome decor of figures in landscapes. Signed COLMONT Ft, Paris. 19th century L. 10 cm; H. 5 cm (small lack of enamel) The inlays on this pair of theater binoculars appear to be made from parts and fragments of Mother-of-Pearl (Pinctada margaritifera). This species of mother-of-pearl is not subject to regulation under the Washington Convention, European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996, or the French Environment Code.
