Marco Girolamo VIDA. [Jerome Vida]. Marci Hieronymi Vidae cremonensis Albae episcopi Poemata omnia... Cremonae: Iohannes Mutius et Bernardinus Locheta, 1550. Overlaid vellum, long title on spine in large ink letters, traces of cords (Binding of the period).
Brunet , V-1181 / Hoeffer, XLVI /// 216-76.
Second collective edition of Marco Girolamo VIDA's poems, more complete than the first, published in Lyon by Sébastien Gryphe in 1536.
A Latin poet born in Cremona in 1480 (1566 +), Marco Girolamo devoted himself to theological studies at the same time as composing Latin poetry. One of his poems, dedicated to chess, won him the favor of Pope Leo X, who endowed him with the priory of San Silvestro in Frascati. He was then appointed to the episcopal see of Alba and supported the siege of this city against the French.
The edition, printed in italic type, is illustrated on the first leaf with a fine woodcut inscribed Cremona.
