An astonishing essay on the importance of cats in Egyptian and modern society. First published in 1727, the text was reprinted in 1741 and in Volume XII of Caylus' works. The text was also attributed to the scholar Fréret.
This edition is illustrated with 10 plates copied from Caylus' figures, engraved by T. Otten, including 2 fold-outs signed by Coypel. The work also contains a large plate entitled Généalogie historique de l'illustre maison de Brinbelle originaire d'Asie... première du nom née à Constantinople... l'année 1699... avoit épousé en première nôce le Chat favori du Grand Seigneur...
