Abbé FLEURY. Father TRANQUILLE. Justification of the discour - Lot 49
Abbé FLEURY. Father TRANQUILLE. Justification of the discourses and ecclesiastical history of M. l'abbé Fleury. S.l.n.n., 1736. In-12, brown glazed calf, spine with 5 nicely decorated nerves (Period binding). Barbier, II-1059 /// (3f.)-91-365-XXVI First edition of the text by Father Tranquille, a Capuchin friar from Bayeux, born Osmont, who later took the name Du Sellier in his retirement in Holland. It is preceded by Abbé Fleury's Discours sur les libertez de l'Eglise Gallicane. The latter had written it as an introduction to the 21st volume of his Histoire ecclésiastique, a volume devoted to the History of the Councils of Constance & Basle, which never saw the light of day, death having prevented him from completing it.
