Set comprising five needle cases, three bean-shaped... - Lot 85 - Pescheteau-Badin
Set comprising five needle cases, three bean-shaped in ivory, a wooden leg and a bone umbrella. 19th century Length: 6.5 to 11 cm The three bean-shaped needle cases are made from the ivory of modern-day Proboscideans, and more specifically Elephantidae. In fact, the parameters for recognizing Elephantidae ivory are clearly visible in the form of the guilloches typical of this family. The original appearance of the raw ivory material has been modified by sculpting and polishing. A beautiful antique patina characterizes this ivory. The needle case depicting an umbrella reveals the parameters for recognizing the bone of a domestic Bovidae of the species known as the Domestic Cow (Bos taurus domesticus). The original appearance of the raw bone material has been altered by carving and polishing.
