GALLE FORT, SRI LANKA, 19th century Dutch chest in lemon and ebony (satinwood and ebonywood) resting on four wide natural wood legs. 45 x 146 x 52 cm Accents, missing parts, restorations Provenance : Fort de Galle, Sri Lanka. This Fort has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. The fort flourished in the 16th century with the arrival of the Portuguese, then as a Dutch port in the 18th century, and later by the East India Company.
