Earthenware plate with contoured rim featuring polychrome decoration in the center of a hydrogen balloon with a figure and three oars in the basket, recalling Jean-Pierre Blanchard's ascent.
Blanchard made several ascents from the Champ-de-Mars on March 2, 1784. He was looking for a way to use oars to steer himself through the air.
