NEVERS - Lot 196
NEVERS
Earthenware plate with contoured rim featuring polychrome patriotic decoration with the three orders united: a sword, a cross and a spade crossing a heart and held in place by a ribbon, surmounted by the royal crown and framed by two blue ribbons bearing the inscriptions "liberté" and "constitution".
On August 4, 1789, the National Constituent Assembly decreed that the Constitution would be preceded by the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. This long-awaited Constitution was promulgated on September 14, 1791. Nevers factories evoked these events by associating the Constitution with the Three Orders.
Late 18th century, revolutionary period.
