Earthenware plate with contoured rim featuring patriotic polychrome decoration in the center of a rooster perched on a cannon surmounted by the inscription "je veille pour la nation 1792" ("I watch for the nation 1792").
The symbolism of the rooster in revolutionary iconography is linked to warlike values and vigilance, which is accentuated here by the presence of the cannon, cannonballs and inscription.
Late 18th century, revolutionary period.
