Earthenware plate with contoured rim featuring patriotic polychrome decoration in the center of a rooster perched on a cannon surmounted by the inscription "je veille pour la nation" ("I watch for the nation").
The symbolism of the rooster in revolutionary iconography is linked to warlike values and vigilance, which is accentuated here by the presence of the cannon and the inscription.
Late 18th century, revolutionary period.
