Earthenware plate with contoured rim featuring patriotic polychrome decoration, with a fortress in the center, topped by a flag and six soldiers in arms at the top of the towers, and a palisade behind which a cannon is hidden on the left.
Often mistaken for a Bastille decor, it is more likely to evoke the defense of a besieged homeland.
Late 18th century, revolutionary period.
