Earthenware plate with contoured rim featuring a rare counter-revolutionary polychrome design of a Renommée blowing a trumpet and holding a medallion inscribed with the words "si les choses ne changent de face nous serons bientôt tous à la besace".
Renommée decorations usually evoke the victories of the Republic, but here they represent the poverty of the people, who are longing for a swift peace.
Late 18th century, revolutionary period.
