After Philippe CARA COSTÉA (1925-2006) - Lot 106
After Philippe CARA COSTÉA (1925-2006) Femme nue de dos Gemmail, signed lower right, in a wooden box mounted with electricity 32 x 41 cm (view) Gemmail (a neologism derived from the French words gemme and émail) is a method invented around 1935 by Jean Crotti. It's an art form in which pieces of colored glass are assembled without lead, unlike traditional stained glass. The pieces of glass are superimposed and glued one on top of the other, with a transparent resin that allows light to pass through, creating highly luminous compositions. Once assembled, the works are backlit, giving depth and intensity of color.
