(6)-xvi-351-(one blank)-104 pp. Originally published in 1727. The second part, which already accompanied the original, includes a "Discours sur la théologie et la mythologie des payens", and a letter from historian Nicolas Fréret "to the author on the chronology of his work". ILLUSTRATION ENGRAVED ON COPPER IN THE TEXT, mainly by Jan van der Gucht after various artists including Charles-Antoine Coypel and François Lemoyne, including a title vignette, 9 bandeaux, 4 culs-de-lampe and 10 initials. Provenance: John Mills (1712-1791, armorial bookplate vignette).
