GRAND ORIENT DE FRANCE. - STATUTES OF THE ORDER OF FREEMASONRY IN FRANCE. S.l.n.n., [April 1801]. In-8, long-grained red morocco, smooth cloisonné spine decorated with masonic, vegetal and geometric motifs with black title page, fine gilt frieze framing the boards with a black leather mosaic medallion in the center within a gilt frame; the medallion on the first plate bears a gilded sun within a triangle of gilded stars, and the medallion on the second plate bears a gilded sun surrounded by 3 gilded stars placed as the vertices of a triangle; gilded roulette decorating the spines and bands, gilded edges (period binding). (4 of which the 2nd is blank)-250 pp. with restored spines, headbands and corners, the leaves of the H section bound in the wrong order, foxing, some marginal wetness, a few small marginal tears. Statutes drafted under the direction of Alexandre-Louis Roëttiers de Montaleau, Grand Venerable of the Grand Orient, following the concordats of May 23 and June 9, 1799, which united the two French obediences, the Grand Orient and the Grande Loge. 2 woodcut vignettes in the text depicting Grand Orient seals. A FINE COPY IN A RARE MOROCCO BINDING WITH MASONIC MOTIFS.
