In-12, brown speckled half-basin with corners, spine with gilt name on tail and orange title (period binding). viii-196 pp; slightly worn binding with stained spine, spotting to last few leaves. ORIGINAL EDITION of this classic work. A ministry employee from 1811 to 1816 with interruptions, Étienne-François Bazot then devoted himself to literary works, becoming, for example, one of the principal editors of the liberal Biographie nouvelle des contemporains. He was also involved in provident and mutual aid societies. Initiated during the imperial era, he was an active Freemason and for a time Venerable of the La Bonne Union Lodge in Paris. In 1828, he was appointed head of the secretariat of the Grand Orient, where he remained for twelve years, and, 33rd, was also a member of the Grand Collège des Rites.
