RACINE (Jean). Dramatic works. À Paris, chez Huet, 1796. Year 4. In-4, dark green morocco, smooth spine cloissonné with gilt decoration of geometrical motifs and irons with musical instruments, gilt framing of geometrical chain between two fillets on the boards, decorated edges, inner gilt roulette, pink sponge-stamped paper endpapers, gilt edges (period binding).
(4 of which the first 2 and 4th are blank)-18-(2 the second blank)-220-(4 of which the last 3 are blank) pp. ; binding a little worn and stained with faded spine.
The work opens with an essay on the life and theater of Jean Racine by a certain "C. M. J.", probably Charles-Michel Janvier, who would become Joachim Murat's secretary of command.
