Carved ivory bust of the Comte de Chambord. - Lot 104
Carved ivory bust of the Comte de Chambord.
19th century
4.5 x 4 x 2.5 cm

This bust of the Comte de Chambord is indeed made from modern-day Proboscidian ivory, and more specifically from Elephantidae. Indeed, the parameters for recognizing Elephantidae ivory are clearly visible in the form of the guilloches typical of this family. Chasing, sculpting and polishing have been carried out to modify the original appearance of the raw ivory material. A beautiful antique patina characterizes this ivory.
