Sèvres - Lot 200
Sèvres Soft-paste porcelain plate with polychrome decoration in the center of a bouquet of knotted roses, the blue-background wing underlined by a frieze of gold foliage between two fillets. Marked: Sèvres, painter's mark Bouillat, gilder's mark Girard. Late 18th century. D. 24.3 cm. This plate comes from a service given as a gift on August 12, 1798 (Thermidor 25, Year VI) to Guiseppe Rangoni for his role as secretary during negotiations between France and the Cisalpine Republic. The Cisalpine legation, which included Duca Serbelloni and Francesco Visconti as negotiators, was tasked with drawing up a treaty of alliance with France, which was concluded on February 21, 1798. David Peters, Sevres Plates and Services of the 18th Century, 2015, vol. V, pp 1213-1214, no. 98-8. A drawing of the plate decoration for this service can be found in the album of plate drawings in the archives of the Sèvres factory.
