CHANTILLY Pair of white enameled soft porcelain statuettes representing a hotteux and hotteuse, the man in the guise of a Chinese man with a moustache, standing, wearing a hat and a tunic with buttons over a long dress, carrying a hood on his back, his hands clasped in his sleeves; the woman in the guise of a European, standing, wearing a long dress and an apron held in one hand, wearing a kerchief and carrying a hood on her back. 18th century circa 1740-1745. H. 28 cm. Provenance: Mrs Alan L. Corey, Sotheby Parke-Bernet, New York, ; December 5, 1974, n°44. The Christner Collection, Christie's, New York, June 9, 1979, 172 A similar pair is kept at the Cité de la Céramique in Sèvres and reproduced by Geneviève Le Duc, Porcelaine Tendre de Chantilly, 1996, p. 179. Other examples are in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the David David Collection in Copenhagen.
