Jean BOCCACE. Nouvelle huictiesme de la cinquiesme journée du Décaméron. Paris, Le Goupy, 1924. In-4, bradel cream vellum, framed with irregular fillet on boards, long title in black and red ink on spine, cover and spine (Ad. Lavaux). Leaf, 45 /// XVIII-(1f.). Tale known as Le Chastiment des amantes cruelles, written by Boccaccio in 1352. Translation by Antoine Le Maçon, illustrated with three paintings by Sandro Botticelli, here engraved on copper in the black manner, and illustrations by Louis Jou. Botticelli's paintings were commissioned by Marquis Pucci, a patrician of Florence, on the occasion of his wedding. The illustrations by Louis Jou comprise a portrait, a title vignette, 2 headbands, a lettering and a cul-de-lampe. Edition of 340 copies, this one of 300 on Arches vellum (no. 10). A fine copy, despite a discharge of the silk bookmark on 2 leaves.
