SAINT-CLOUD Figure of Chinese actress in soft porcelain, in theater costume, seated, left arm raised, her dress her dress with blue, yellow, green and red decorations enhanced in gold with cartouche and flowers. 18th century, circa 1730-1740. H. 22 cm. One arm and the back of the base broken. Six couples of Chinese actors in Saint-Cloud porcelain of the same model are now listed. Two are decorated in the same palette and with comparable ornaments. They are both in the Metropolitan Museum in New York and have recently been studied by Jeffrey Munger, European Porcelain in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2018, no. 45, pp. 146-147. Another white enameled pair is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and reproduced by Bertrand Rondot, Discovering the Secrets of Soft-Paste Porcelain at The Saint-Cloud Manufactory, cz. 1690-1766¸1999, no. 172, p. 226. Another white pair was part of the former Doisteau collection, (sale Paris, Galerie Georges Petit, 18-19 June 1928, n° 65).
