Pair of metal-plated rafraichissoirs with handles, the pedestal and the neck gadrooned, decorated in application of lambrequins engraved with the arms of Anne-Francois-Victor Le Tonnelier de Breteuil. They bear on the foot the mark with the crowned C. 18th century. Diameter : 21 cm Height : 21,5 cm (Slight wear of the silvering) Provenance: Collection André Tollon, Chateau de Viel -Vayssac - Hotel Drouot, May 27 and 28, 1969, Me Etienne Ader, N°291 of the catalog. Anne-Francois-Victor Le Tonnelier de Breteuil, fourth of the ten children of Claude Charles, Count de Breteuil, was ordained a priest, became vicar general of Soissons, then of Narbonne and was appointed bishop of Montauban on October 6, 1762, in 1781 he was provided with the abbey of Belleperche. He was elected deputy to the General Assembly in 1789, refused to take the constitutional oath in 1791, hid in Normandy, was discovered, imprisoned in Rouen and beheaded in 1794. The mark with the crowned C, defined thanks to the research of Henri Nocq, corresponds to a tax paid on bronzes and copperware between 1745 and 1749. The edict of February 1745 specifies that it applies to "all old and new works of bronze, pure copper, cast iron, mixed copper, forged, ground, beaten, flattened, engraved, gilded, silvered and colored, without any exception". Each artisan must go to the trademark office to have the hallmark inscribed and pay the fee. The hallmark must appear on all copper metal work executed or sold during these four years, it concerns "all old or new work", it is therefore found on pieces prior to 1745.
