Jean BOCCACE. New eighth of the fifth day of the Decameron. Paris, Le Goupy, 1924. In-4, bradel cream vellum, framed with an irregular fillet on the boards, long title in black and red ink on the spine, cover and spine (Ad. Lavaux). Leaf, 45 /// XVIII-(1f.). A tale known as Le Chastiment des amantes cruelles which Boccaccio wrote in 1352. Translation by Antoine Le Maçon, illustrated with three paintings by Sandro Botticelli, here engraved on copper in the black manner, and illustrations by Louis Jou. Botticelli's paintings were executed at the request of the Marquis Pucci, patrician of Florence, on the occasion of his wedding. The illustrations by Louis Jou consist of a portrait, a title vignette, 2 headbands, a lettering and a cul-de-lampe. Edition at 340 copies, this one of the 300 on Arches vellum (n° 10). Nice copy despite a discharge of the silk bookmark at 2 leaves.
