VILLEMONT. Memorandum concerning the county of Artois. Manus - Lot 116
VILLEMONT. Memorandum concerning the county of Artois. Manuscript copy. S.l., 1714. Small in-4, marbled calf, spine with five nicely decorated bands (Binding of the period). 59-61-31-70, blank leaves not collated. 221 leaves written on both sides, in brown ink, legible and regular writing. Interesting handwritten copy of a memoir written in 1698 by Monsieur de Villemont, Chief Engineer of Arras, which he wrote for the benefit of Monseigneur Louis Duc de Bourgogne, who died Dauphin of France. The first page indicates that the first part was written by Villemont and that it was corrected by Monsieur d'Artezé, knight of the royal and military order of St. Louis, captain in the regiment of Champagne and ordinary engineer of the King. The second and third parts of this memoir which are a history of the city of Arras were completed by d'Artezé. The manuscript is completed with a fourth part, probably written by d'Artezé, which is a collection of the nobility of the provinces of Burgundy, duchies of Limbourg, Luxembourg, counties of Flanders, Artois, Hainaut, Holland
