Alphonse de LAMARTINE. - Lot 80
Alphonse de LAMARTINE. Chant du sacre or La Veille des Armes. Paris, Baudoin et Canel, 1825. In-8, half black long-grained morocco with corners, smooth spine decorated in full, gilt head, cover and spine (Binding of the second half of the 19th century). Vicaire, IV-960 /// (2f.)-64-4. Rare first edition. A first edition copy containing 4 verses on Philippe Égalité that Lamartine suppressed at the request of Louis-Philippe. The volume also contains in fine the 4 pages prospectus on Leber's work, Les Cérémonies du sacre, prospectus which was attached to the copies. The work is all the more rare as the publisher sold in 1827 the remaining copies to grocers who used them to wrap sugar and cinnamon. Hinges and headpieces rubbed, missing second cover and back cover.
