Eshu caryatid Yoruba (Nigeria) - Lot 13
Eshu caryatid Yoruba (Nigeria) This beautiful and unusual object must have once adorned and served on an altar dedicated to the god Eshu, whose remarkable classical representation of himself playing the flute serves as the caryatid on the tray at the top. An important spirit, Eshu is supposed to be the first to receive offerings during rituals as he is said to be the messenger between the spiritual and material worlds.
