CASTEL DURANTE Majolica peg with trofei decoration of military trophies in ochre on a blue background, the handle with yellow background decorated with an angel figure surmounting the inscription MEL. VIOL. SOL. in a band and C.R.D. in a heart, an open book on the pedestal bears the inscription: Giovan Battista Carli fecit pitura de tera Durantis e Ioanes Luca filius eius. Accompanied by the date 16IX in a cartouche. 17th century, dated 1609, by Gianbattista and Gianluca Carli. H. 25 cm. Restored chips on the foot and on the neck. This chevrette belongs to a set of chevrettes from Castel Durante dating from the beginning of the 17th century and bearing the C.R.D. emblem in a heart, not identified. A goat of this set is preserved in the Museum of Ceramics in Faenza and reproduced by Bojani, Ravanelli, Fanfani La donazione Galeazzo Cora, 1985, n° 317, p. 132. Another, dated 1614, is in the Saide and Mario Formica collection and reproduced by Fiocco, Gherardi, La Maiolica Rinascimentale di Casteldurante, 1997, no. 24, pp. 78-79.
