SOUPIERE oval covered and its lining out of silver 950 thous - Lot 106
SOUPIERE oval covered and its lining out of silver 950 thousandths plain monogrammed in two escutcheons, posing on a pedestal, underlined by mouldings of water leaves. The catch of the lid in the shape of button of flower on foliage mound. The handles in the shape of a winged mermaid woman holding a bunch of grapes. PARIS 1809-1819 Goldsmith : Jacques Victor MASSON Height : 29,5 cm Weight : 2.130 g (Shocks, old restoration on the throat) The model of the handles of our tureen is identical to that of two ewers preserved in the Louvre Museum, that of Louis Manant and Nicolas Xavier Goulain and that of Marc Augustin Lebrun. This figure of a woman was very successful during the Restoration (1814-1830). It seems that the mould of this handle circulated among several silversmiths (French silverware of the 19th century: The collection of the Louvre Museum, Anne DION - page166 N°83 and page183 N°92)
