SÈVRES - Lot 237
SÈVRES A second size soft porcelain cup and saucer with polychrome decoration of roses and flowers in medallions framed in gold on a band decorated with semis of flowers, braids with blue background and gold dots. Marked in blue: LL interlaced, letter-date JJ for 1786, marks of the painters Mme Le Bel and Mme Bunel. 18th century, 1786. H. 6.8 cm and D. 13.5 cm. Gold wear on the rim of the saucer. The decoration of this goblet is named Bombelle by the Manufacture de Sèvres, referring to the service bought in May 1786 by the Marquis de Bombelle, French ambassador to Portugal, and decorated with Zone bleu, Cartels de Roses and Barbeaux. Several services with Bombelle decoration, some of them accompanied by a tea service, were sold at the end of the 18th century. Several luncheons and bowls were also sold separately (David Peters, op. cit., vol. IV, n° 86-3, p. 773-774).
