Denis DIDEROT and Jean Le Rond D'ALEMBERT. Encyclopédie, ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers, par une société de gens de lettres, mis en ordre et publié par M. Diderot ; et quant à la partie Mathématique, par M. d'Alembert. Geneva, Pellet; Neufchatel, Société Typographique, 1777-1779. 39 volumes in-4, including 3 volumes of plates, marbled calf, spine with 5 ornate nerves (period binding). New edition containing 2 portraits, 11 (out of 13) folding tables and 3 volumes containing 498 (out of 501) plates, some grouped on folding plates. Some of the volumes are marked Third Edition. A homogeneous copy but with some small differences in the ironwork decorating the volumes. The bindings are in good general condition but several headpieces are torn off with the beginning of cracks in the spine, the paper is sometimes scorched or stained but never seriously. One of the plates has been partly cut off.
